Bulimia is an eating disorder that is becoming more and more present in civilized culture. The media often portrays unrealistic images of beauty, causing many to struggle to reach a perfection that is often unattainable. Bulimics suffer in both the mind and the body, and the depression and poor self-image that one with the disorder feels is just a small portion of the damage that is being done. Bulimia can cause many problems throughout the body, up to, and including, death. Bulimics have two options when it comes to dealing with their treatment - seeking help, or allowing the disorder to waste their body away. While counseling and therapy can be very helpful when it comes to treating bulimia, only eighty percent of all sufferers successfully eliminate their disorder. Unfortunately, many relapse, and in this article, we'll offer some tips for when you fear a relapse into your bulimic condition may arise.

One of the most important things to remember when it comes to dealing with keeping bulimia at bay is to never allow yourself to get too hungry. While you shouldn't be eating all the time, if you restrict yourself heavily, you may be all the more likely to binge eat. Studies have shown that when someone is undergoing a serious diet, they are much more likely to binge eat. Also, do your best to keep foods from being taboo. When you make one of your favorite foods unattainable, you may find more and more drawn to it. Instead, try just having a small portion of the food that you lust for. Another thing to consider is keeping yourself away from foods that you know you'll want to pig out on. Until you've got your problem under control, avoid places where you tend to eat by the mouthful. If the urge to binge and purge is overwhelming you, and you feel that you can't resist, do your best to avoid the behavior for thirty minutes. In that time, consider what is going on in your life that may be causing you to feel that bingeing would be the right thing for you to do. Once you've got the problems that you are facing figured out, try to think of some solutions to those problems that you could be participating in as opposed to bingeing. You may find that you are able to avoid bingeing through this method.

Also, be sure to have a good dose of fun within your life. Try to do at least one thing per day that puts you into a good mood, as bulimia is a tough problem to overcome and the mental strain that it places upon you can be difficult to deal with. However, if the problems that you are facing appear to be too vast and you think that a relapse is imminent, you should speak to a physician or a counselor. They can help to provide you with personalized answers to your questions and feelings that can make the difference between healthy habits and relapsing.
