Lowering blood pressure means learning ways to both manage and ease stress in your life. Everyone suffers from stress and a certain amount is necessary but too much can cause an overload of stress. If you have high blood pressure that is only minimally over the norm (which is around 120/80 for younger people and 140/90 for those who are middle aged or older) then ways can be found for lowering blood pressure than do not include drugs. It is always wise to see your doctor to have your blood pressure monitored and to include about non-drug options for lowering blood pressure.

Managing stress can work in lowering pressure in both a physical as well as psychological sense. Always eat healthy and drink very little as well as abuse in both these areas will do no good in lowering blood pressure but will instead increase it. Kick the smoking habit for good and make it your goal to exercise every day for at least 30 minutes at a time. Mild to moderate exercise such as a jog or walk can work just fine as you do not have to exhaust yourself at the gym.

Lowering blood pressure means learning to assert yourself by realizing that you do not always have to say yes to everyone’s requests or demands. Stand up for yourself while still being respectful of other people in your life. Relaxation techniques are important and this means not just on weekends and vacations but every day. Take a half and hour or if you can, an hour per day and relax in whatever way suits you most. Take a relaxing soak in the tub, go for a walk, get a massage, read a book, watch a funny movie or spend some quality time with friends. Other relaxation techniques that are worthwhile to try include meditation, yoga, deep breathing exercises, free writing exercises or visualization. Even if relaxing is simply stretching out on your bed and feeling every muscle in your body relax, do so. Consider it to be a "mini-vacation. "

Setting realistic goals and realistic expectations for your life helps to keep your blood pressure normalized and you cannot do everything all at once and therefore must bring things down into smaller steps. As well you cannot be the victor of everything you attempt to do therefore accept that you are only human. Remember the "You can’t win them all! " philosophy. Taking responsibility for your actions is another aspect of keeping your blood pressure at an average rate. To put it another way, control the parts of your life that you can and let go of all of the rest.
