Impotence is a problem that many men across the world face. It's a problem that can make a man feel stripped of his manhood, and many find it of the utmost importance to get the problem cured up immediately. There are many different reasons that one may suffer from a case of erectile dysfunction, and in this article, we'll focus on the impact that the use of alcohol can have when it comes to having trouble achieving an erection.

William Shakespeare, the famous playwright, stated that alcohol "provokes the desire but takes away the performance". His words couldn't be more true- many men are familiar with the lust that they may experience when they are under the influence, and many end up frustrated at an inability to perform when the opportunity presents itself. While a little bit of alcohol can actually be beneficial to the sex drive, causing an increase in libido and a lack of inhibition, too much alcohol can drastically hinder sexual performance. While the symptoms vary from person to person, some men find that they are unable to produce a sufficient sexual drive when under the influence. While some men are able to maintain an erection while overly drunk, they may not be able to have sex to the point of orgasm. Other men simply cannot achieve an erection in the first place. Men who drink too much on a regular basis can, in fact, cause the problem to grow to a large degree.

When alcohol is abused over a long period of time, it can cause drastic changes within your body. There are certain impulses that are set up within your body, linking between the pituitary gland and the male genitalia. Over a period of prolonged alcohol abuse, these connections can dwindle, causing more and more trouble to occur when one is trying to achieve an erection. The nervous system helps the body to achieve an erection by causing the blood vessels located within the penis to dilate, allowing them to fill with blood and causing the penis to swell. The nervous system is also damaged through alcohol abuse, and its ability to dilate the blood vessels can dwindle. After a length of time, these problems will gradually occur with less and less alcohol being consumed, eventually causing a lack of erection even when an individual is sober.

When trying to treat a problem with alcohol impotence, many find that the use of medications such as Viagra and Levitra are helpful in the struggle. These drugs are part of a family known as PDE-5 inhibitors, and they work by helping to relax the blood vessels in the penis, resulting in fuller and more frequent erections. In cases in which regular alcohol consumption is seriously damaging one's life, treatment should be avoided until the problem with alcohol is addressed. Alcohol usage can wreak havoc in the body over a long period of time, and addressing the problem is tantamount to freeing yourself from all of its negative effects.
